About
Learn it. Practise it. Dive better.
Divers should be able to practise the thinking parts of diving without getting wet.
Most of what keeps a dive safe is decided before and during it: how much gas is really yours to use, when to turn, what to do when the current changes. Those skills fade between trips. DepthCraft is a library of small games that keep them sharp, each built around one skill and one loop: plan, commit, see the consequence, try again.
What DepthCraft is not
- 01It is not a certification, and scores are game scores, not competency.
- 02It does not replace an instructor, dive tables, a dive computer or planning software.
- 03It cannot tell you that a real dive is safe.
- 04It is not cave training. Overhead shows why the cave rules exist; going past the daylight takes a cave course and an instructor.
Remarks
The games reward conservative diving on purpose: protecting your reserve, turning on time, keeping the last third of a cave dive for your buddy and doing your stop score higher than squeezing out bottom time.
The maths
Metric, seawater at 10 m per bar, ideal gas. Minimum gas is two stressed divers (1.5 times their normal rate) taking one minute to sort a problem out at depth, then a 9 m/min ascent with a three minute stop at 5 m. No-stop limits come from Buhlmann ZHL-16C with a gradient factor of 85. Hold's buoyancy is Boyle's law on the gas in your jacket and wetsuit, a breath worth about a kilogram either way, and a cylinder that gets 1.2 g lighter for every litre you breathe. Overhead turns on thirds of the starting pressure, rounded to the safe side, and checks the worst case: two divers on one gas supply getting out from the farthest point, both at 1.5 times their normal rate, on a slower long-hose swim, with the cave's flow for or against them. Your agency, computer and instructor may use different numbers; theirs win.
Privacy
No accounts, no cookies, no advertising. We count anonymous events such as games started, finished and replayed so we can tell which games are worth building. We keep the country a request came from, never an IP address or any identifier. Your progress stays in your browser.
Who builds it
DepthCraft is built by Keystone Analytics, a software studio led by a TDI/SDI Divemaster. Dive centres and instructors who want missions for their own sites can get in touch.
